 The video by National Geographic was about flu virus. This on of the most contagious viruses causes more than 36 000 deaths in the u.s. per year. The flu virus triggers body's immune system to destroy it's own cells what can lead to death through organ failure or secondary infections. This virus can mutate easily what lets it adapt to new hosts or even cross-species and that's why it caused so many pandemics like Spanish flu (50 million people killed) or Swine flu. Scientists are constantly monitoring the development of flu virus and create seasonal vaccines to prevent next epidemic.
