reflections#5

Yesterday we celebrate my friends' birthday at restaurant. What was annoying me all the time was that my friends have to record and take pictures of everything what was happening there, starting from birthday girl reaction ending at eating cake. I was shocked that they were paying more attention to their phones than to celebrating. I think that it's not the way how people should interact. It's really uncomfortable to feel that you're constantly in the camera eye and that doesn't let you feel the moment at all. I've noticed that they were that absorbed in taking pictures that they didn't even know what we were talking about. Just like they weren't there. What I think is that those photos are so fake. We fake smiles and laugh just to remember while looking at photos how happy we were then  (what obviously wasn't true). That situation made me think that we, as a human kind, have reached that moment where we're so afraid that we'll be forgotten that we're ready to sacrifice our happiness to prove that we have existed and lead a happy lives.

  1. For some time I've been wondering where the compulsion to photograph all your life comes from. Do people take photos of their failures and unhappy moments too? I guess not. So probably the goal is, as you say, to communicate to the world that you have a great successful life, full of joy, friends, excitement, etc.
