NHS data published this week showed a drop of number of taken vaccinations against measles, mumps and rubella from 91.2% to 90.3% in England. Last year there were around 1000 cases of measles and mumps among Britain- double the number recorded 2 years previously. The reason why Brits are choosing to make their children vulnerable to infections is a spread of misinformation online. Instead of trusting real doctors and science people would rather use unverified google information to check if they should have their kids vaccinated or not. There they found hundreds of pseudoscientific sites about vaccines causing autism and herbs and etheric oils being a safer way to make children immune to diseases. Although anti-vax movement isn't about hate speech or directly cause violence it is extremely dangerous. Even though we're living in XXI century and we've found a way to protect ourselves from diseases like measles they're coming back because of people's knowledge resistance. Some countries have already considered compulsory vaccinations and schools and nurseries started to require proof of immunization. These actions needed to be taken so we wouldn't go back to medieval ages when measles was killing thousands of people even though now we have an effective defense against it.
