Pencil art

Have you ever thought that you could use your pencils to do something other than drawing? The answer to this question isn't that obvious but Jennifer Maestre found the way to use the most common art material in unusual way. You would probably never thought of carving in pens but she does. Her sculptures are based on ocean nature- animals and plants. She said that the inspiration for the one of her most famous sculptures had been sea urchin- dangerous, spiky and not friendly looking at all, but with a beautiful pearl inside. She had decided that pencils would be a perfect material for that piece of art. They were sharp at the edges but also smooth on the sides which was ideal for that sculpture. And so it stays like that and Jennifer still carves in pencils. Who knows, maybe pencils will be alternative for normal wood and clay soon.
